The drum set works for this recital are presented as an extension of the snare drum and, by consequence, the rudimentary and other cultural practices seen in the snare drumming works.
The first of the solos, Amazonian Reflections, shows the path way I personally took to gain facility in Brazilian drumming. This process happened through the study of funk music, which has been heavily influenced by Samba and other Brazilian rhythms.

The second of the solos, Sousa-Hop, attempts to draw a line between the music (more specifically rhythm) of JP Sousa to the beats of hip hop. In the hip hop beat, you can find the 'double beat' which is traditionally used as a rhythmic symbol to tell the drummers, and musicians, to stop playing the current piece at the end of the double beat sequence.

The last solo in the drum set works, Up Tempo Orchestration, is meant to show the orchestration of a simple rhythmic melody across the 4 limbs and drum set.
