Rudimental Coordination is a book that wa developed when I left the Marine Band in 2011 and wanted my snare drum chops to transfer over to the drum set. While I've played snare drum since 2000, the drum set was a fairly new instrument for me. in order to transition from snare drummer to drumset, I knew I had to develop a method. Most of this method is derived from the art of snare drumming itself.
Basic Strokes -> Rudiments -> Cadences -> Soloing/Improv -> Writing...
This concept as applied to drumset was further developed once I began researching the efficiency of snare drumming and drumset through motion capture technology.
The transition from snare drum to drumset took some time, but with the aid of the exercises in the book I have been able to transfer my snare drum chops to the drumset.
Drumset, being a new instrument, can be approached from many different avenues and traditions. My hope with Rudimental Coordination is to connect the bridge between American Rudimentary Snare Drumming and the Modern Drumset. Below is a link to purchase the book.
